Why do veterans gather once a year?

It’s because reunions are a very special event, like a family reunion…only better! It’s a reunion of true brotherhood. Your time in combat leaves an indelible imprint on your life experience. When you think about it, what other time in your life have you experienced such highs and lows, depended on those around you for your very life and they depended on you for the same? It was a time when everything you owned was carried on your back and water could be more precious than gold. You and your buddies shared packages from home, shared stories and secrets, shared water and food, shared laughs and tears, shared foxholes and slit-trenches. Together you accomplished things most people couldn’t even imagine. You may have saved a brother’s life. Maybe you haven’t seen your buddies since you left the service, but you have thought about them often over the years, wishing you could see them again, wondering where they are and what they have done with their lives. While coming to a reunion is no guarantee that you will find one of your buddies, it is a step in the right direction. For those who have contacted buddies but have not attended a reunion, it’s not too late to make plans to come to the 2009 annual reunion in Gaithersburg, Md. One of my favorite experiences at any reunion is seeing two old buddies embracing each other having not seen each other for many years. I too will see a few of my old buddies at this reunion and I can’t tell you what a great experience it is to see them year after year. Many of them have attended many of our reunions. All I can say is it’s a very special time. Are you ready for a reunion? If you come, I will promise that you will never forget it. Bring your family. Perhaps for the first time they will begin to understand why men who have been to war yearn to reunite.

Our reunions are unique. We do not charge a registration fee. We do not charge a membership fee. Our hospitality room serving cocktails, beer and snacks is all complimentary. Our reunion staff is made up of volunteers. The work they do is a labor of love. We do not have any paid employees. It is not going to cost you a leg and an arm to attend, and you don’t have to be a millionaire either. We are proud to say that for the last 35 years, we have furnished the best for less. To my knowledge, no reunion group can make this claim.

When I leave this world, my last thought will be of my family and my comrades…such good men. Looking forward to seeing you in July.
